While hanging lights on the outside of his 2 story house, Jeff needed and used his aikido falling skills.
Here’s his story.
Recently Aikido’Ka youth member Peighton performed her “healthy habits/self-discipline” requirement for rank promotion. Peighton, who is 8, is testing for her purple belt on Saturday, June 5. For her healthy habits project, Peighton gave up all types of junk food for one week.
I am told by several people, that lots of folks offered Peighton tons of sugary treats during her self-discipline project. In particular, Peighton attended a birthday party on the last day of her project! She kept her promise to herself and didn’t eat any of the sugary treats.
With Peighton’s permission, here’s her report:
Day 1: On the first day, I could have had a brownie, but I didn’t. I think it was easy.
Day 2: On the second day, I really liked eating healthy foods. I liked not having sugar.
Day 3: On the third day, I got an invitation to a birthday party. I thought about giving up, but I didn’t.
Day 5: On the fifth day, my asked me if I wanted Taco Bell, but I knew it wasn’t right. It was very easy.
Day 7: I went to the birthday party. My friends were eating sweets. I felt good that I didn’t have candy. I made me feel bigger.
I asked Peighton what she meant by feeling “bigger.” She explained to me that she didn’t think that she had the self-discipline to stick to her promise. When she learned that she could, she felt more mature and very proud of herself. In other words, she felt “bigger.”
Well done, Peighton! We are all very proud of you.
